Angora is one of the oldest breeds. The cat originated in Turkey and spread throughout Europe during the 1700’s and 1800’s. beginning in the early 1900’s, Angoras were commonly crossed with Persians. As a result, the pure Angora nearly became extinct. Only a few remained by the early 1960’s. Then, cat breeders and officials of the zoo in Ankara, Turkey, established a breeding programe that saved these cats.
The Angora has a long, slender body. Its tiny, wedgeshaped head includes a long nose and large ears. Its silky, medium – length hair forms slight waves on the stomach and big tufts on the ears and between the toes. The colour of the coat and eyes varies.
